Guitar Lessons Nottingham
Test
Wanna be a Guitar Hero
I am a 29 year old regular guy who slogged his guts out at college and then did a HE course (HND MUSIC)
At school I was named a dreamer and all that by the teachers and I do not really thing many people had much hope for me. I think dreaming is good as it enables you to imagine a life beyond your wildest dreams and some of us do make it! Life beyond my wildest dreams is not something you can touch it is not an object of desire or a amount in the bank account, it is a feeling and I am very close to it.
I am a Guitar Teacher in Nottingham and my Name is Rob Greco
I have a website http://www.eventstudiosnottingham.co.uk
It was only when I got my first Guitar that anything actually started to switch on in my head, I remember just looking at this sunburst strat with disbelief when I first got it and twanging those strings was a complete wake up call.
I was going to make a living from the guitar and from that day forward I practiced daily. I started up by playing the finger per fret and learning some chords.
I went to several Guitar Teachers, many (most) of them still about now but I was not impressed with their attitude to teaching, the lessons were more about them than me! look at my playing they would say and completly slam the guitar! who cares how you can play I thought!! I want to learn not polish your ego!!
I finally found this local guy who was in my age group and looked kind of like my idol Slash from guns n roses! his name was Darren, He had a Gibson Les Paul and he taught me what I needed to know, he was an extremly good teacher and very down to earth. We went through Jimi Hendrix Hey Joe, Purple Haze and voodoo chile, as a 14 year old boy this was an amazing challenge and Darren made this possible for me.
Later that year I saved all of my pocket money, all of my paper round money and Christmas and Birthday money, I went to the Music Shop in Hockley Nottingham and purchased myself a Fender USA Strat in Deep red (crimson burst) it was an amazing day for me. The tone of this guitar was perfect and the neck smooth and the feel was what I had dreamed it would be like.
I continued to practice everyday, playing along to Cream, Hendrix, Clapton, vai, Stevie Ray and the like.
I had no formal qualifications in music but decided to go to music college at New College Nottingham, otherwise Known as Clarendon College.
I had a great host of inspirational tutors there Heie Gelhaus, Nigel Beer, Nick Redfern, Dmitry Fedotov to name a few. They were really supportive and I would say that college taught me the nuts n bolts of music, Theory, Harmony,Counter point. Up until I went to college I had only really played on my guitar but at college I learnt the Piano, Double Bass, Bass Guitar keyboard, Sequencer and Musical composition.
I joined a great number of bands ranging from Steve Vai type bands playing at 180 bpm! to blues to creamy jazz to experimental- I must admit I liked them all.
Whilst I was at College I had the opportunity t o go on tour and went to Germany which was a really great experience, I felt really special as I had worked a summer in a factory to save up for a peavey 5150 stack that year and in Germany I got to test how powerful it was! It is very loud let me tell you, valve amps usually are!!
I was playing in a R&B band that year and that just shows the diverse situations you find yourself in as a Guitarist. We had a drummer who played for us as a session musician who has asked not be named but he actually had a chart topping hit in the UK.
Later that year I was accepted to do the Higher National Diploma which was the first year it ran. A Hnd is in the same league as a Degree but more practical and in line with music rather than theory and paper based learning.
My music taste was really wide by then and I started playing in a experimental Jazz band and have not had that much fun in a really long time, we were using the best of the technology of the day, we had a sampler which we regually sampled lines off old Reggae albums and the like to Funk up the sound. We had our demo aired on local radio and in local night clubs.
When the College days were over everyone including me went down their own path towards their dream career.
I have as well as taught guitar, been a (and still am a) sessions musician- lots of my Guitar playing is on itunes but because I am paid a session fee i do not disclose whose album I have played on and take a one off royalty
I started teaching guitar and that was like a dream come true for me, as well as teaching guitar I composed a great deal of music electronically and was soon hooked, I have built up a recording studio over the last 8 years and am on the verge of launching the studio as a business see http://www.eventstudiosnottingham.co.uk over the coming months to check on my progress.
Teaching the Guitar is a great privilege for me I get to meet a really interesting group of people who continue to inspire me with their impressive musical taste and dedication to art.
I have taught children as young as ten and adults as mature as 62 and we are all the same at heart!
This brings me up till 2009 where I regually teach the Guitar at Event Studios Nottingham ( http://www.eventstudiosnottingham.co.uk )
I have recently got married to a very beutiful and loving women Helen and I have a child on the way, this is a real humbling experience for me and feel deep gratitude.
I love my career in music and long may it yeald satisfaction for me and those around me. I will be adding more to this post shortly but I must go now as I have something on at the studio…
